Complex, Computer Assisted Skull Reconstruction Using Patient Specific Implants after Resection of an Intraosseous Meningioma – A Case Report
نویسنده
چکیده
Background: Resection defects of the skull have long been reconstructed using autogenously and alloplastic materials[1]. Complex reconstructions of the orbit have been reported to benefit from patient specific implants [2].Due to new algorithms planning procedures for these implants have recently improved significantly. Rapid production methods such as selective laser melting and rapid prototyping have now been introduced into the clinical routine[3]. Case Report: We report a case of a 49-year old woman presenting with a recurrence of a previously surgically resected meningioma. The lesion had grown from the lateral sphenoidal bone towards the orbit and compromised her appearance and vision. The surgical procedure included resection and alloplastic reconstruction using a patient specific implant (PSI) planned by our department and manufactured by selective laser melting (SLM). We focus on the process of implant planning and its interaction with the production process. Conclusion: Patient specific implants provide the treating surgeons with a superior method of anatomically correct, alloplastic skull reconstruction, which is able to contribute to an improved clinical outcome.

Delayed Bilateral Symptomatic Vasospasm after Resection of a Skull Base Meningioma: Report on a New Case and Literature Review
Background and Importance: Symptomatic vasospasm is a well-known pathology associated with ruptured aneurysms. Nevertheless, this condition is rarely found as a result of skull base tumor removal. Case Presentation: We reported a new case of 40-year-old woman previously treated for a tuberculum and diaphragma sellae meningioma showing symptomatic vasospasm after twelve post-operative days wi...
متن کاملPrimary intraosseous osteolytic meningioma of the skull: a case report
Primary intraosseous meningiomas are uncommon. The osteolytic variants of these tumors are even rarer. When one reviews a bony skull lesion, the differential diagnosis is very wide and includes both malignant and benign diseases. In case of primary skull meningioma, correct diagnosis and total resection of the lesion ensures curative therapy. Presented is a case of osteolytic skull lesion not i...
متن کاملPrimary intraosseous meningioma: CT and MRI appearance.
Benign primary intraosseous meningioma presenting with osteolytic skull lesion and soft-tissue component is rare. CT and MR imaging of a patient with frontoparietal scalp swelling showed an osteolytic intracalvarial lesion with an extradural soft-tissue component. Following wide surgical resection, the histological examination revealed an intraosseous chordoid meningioma. The clinical and radio...
متن کاملPrimary Intraosseous Osteolytic Meningioma of the Skull Mimicking Scalp Mass: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Primary extradural meningioma is about 1-2% of all meningiomas. Primary intraosseous meningioma is a rare form of intra-bone tumors that account for approximately 67% of extradural meningiomas. We report a primary intraosseous meningioma of a 69-year-old man who had headaches and a mass on right parietal scalp for the past few months. Remarkably, the brain tissue within the osteolytic cavity of...

We illustrate a case of a giant primary intraosseous meningiomas (PIMs) with optic nerve compression treated by partial resection. A 48-year-old female presented with visual disturbances exophthalmus, diplopia and eye pain due to optic nerve compression. The patient had a past history of fibrous dysplasia treated surgically with partial resection by ENT in 2010. Histology confirmed the diagnosi...
